How Plinng shipped its Instagram integration in 3 hours

Plinng needed Instagram publishing inside their AI product, fast. One engineer, one afternoon, and zero sales calls. Here's how they did it with Zernio.

β€œZernio is a great tool meant for developers, built by developers. That's what's groundbreaking versus the competition. There's no one in the middle, we can talk engineer to engineer and just ship immediately.”

The challenge

Plinng is an AI platform that runs a small business's marketing on autopilot. It builds a monthly social strategy, generates content, and publishes it directly to the user's social accounts.

That publishing step has to work without human involvement. Plinng doesn't count a user as active until their account is connected and posting, so the team needed a way to connect accounts and publish automatically.

They looked at several options, including Buffer, Metricool, and building directly on top of Instagram's API. Plinng had previously used Metricool but found it required too many manual steps for a truly hands-off experience. Building directly meant a longer implementation, while some vendors wanted to schedule sales calls before providing technical answers.

What they built

An engineer on the team suggested Zernio.

β€œOne of our engineers looked at the docs and came to us and said, 'I think I can set up the Instagram integration in three hours.' We said, if you can do it in three hours or in a day, we're moving forward with Zernio β€” and we did.”

Today, Zernio powers the part of Plinng that everything else depends on: connecting users' social accounts and publishing content automatically, on their behalf.

Once a user connects Instagram inside Plinng, the agent can publish and schedule posts directly. Bringing publishing into the product removed the external tooling and manual work that came with the old Metricool setup.

The deciding factor wasn't pricing, but it was the documentation.

Plinng builds with AI agents, so an integration only works if an agent can read the docs and build against them without a human translating.

β€œWe always say that in this new AI paradigm, documentation is key. If your docs are proper, your agents build the integration in minutes. With other companies, the documentation was too hard, not ready for development or they wanted to set up a meeting. We didn't have time for that.”

What's next. Instagram posting is live today. Two things are next on Plinng's roadmap.

First, analytics: Plinng already pulls the data from Zernio internally and is working out how to put it in front of end users.

Second, adding support for more platforms: Plinng plans to expand beyond Instagram to the other platforms Zernio covers. Since they all run on the same integration, that's a question of when, not another build.

The results

Moving account connection and publishing inside the product changed both what it cost Plinng and what it felt like for users.

  • Quick user activation. Users no longer manage a separate Metricool connection to get their account live. They connect Instagram in seconds, without leaving Plinng.
  • Value in hours, not days. Getting a user from onboarding to their first published post used to take two to three days, a lot of it waiting on manual steps. Now it happens in hours. A user reviews and approves the content, and it publishes right away.
  • Full publishing flexibility. Previously, Plinng couldn't schedule content less than 24 hours in advance because someone had to publish it manually. That limitation is gone. Plinng can program and publish on its own schedule now.
  • Lower cost. The old setup relied on external tooling and manual work. Bringing publishing into the product reduced both complexity and operational cost.

In short

Every team building an autonomous product faces the same choice: build the plumbing yourself, or buy it and spend your attention on what customers actually pay for.

Plinng chose to buy, and the cost of that choice was an afternoon. What the team got back was a publishing layer they own inside the product, faster activation, lower cost, and an engineering team that never had to become experts in someone else's API.

Building something similar?

If publishing is part of your product and not a nice-to-have, you don't need to build the Instagram integration yourself. The first 2 social accounts are on us, and every feature is included from day one.
